If the Owl Calls Again (1997) is a four-song cycle with settings of poems by the recently deceseased and highly underrated American poet, John Haines. The poems are reflections of Mr. Haines's experiences with the animal life of his native Alaska. In many instances, the animals take on human characteristics or allow us to see the world through their eyes. This can be a harrowing experience: in the third song A Moose Calling, the listener sees a hunter through the eyes of a moose...
