Notes
Three Sonnets was written with the idea that the over-riding themes of these seminal poems are Time, Death and Love. I have selected three sonnets, each of which seems to encompass one of these ideas and these are the three movements of the work. It is also not coincidental that the instrumental accompaniment consists of three instruments – piano, horn and cello. Perhaps there is a correlation between each 'theme' and one of the instruments....
